Johnson is now certified in three areas: Civil Appellate Law, Civil Trial Law, and Personal Injury Trial Law. He is the youngest practicing attorney in Texas to have this triple certification.
The Texas Board of Legal Specialization certifies attorneys in twenty specific areas of law in order to insure the highest quality legal services for Texas citizens. Out of approximately 84,000 licensed attorneys in Texas, there are currently only 14 practicing attorneys that have this particular triple board certification.
Certified Civil Appellate Law consultants are competent in the procedures for appeals of civil cases, preparing briefs and performing oral argument in the appeals. Certified Civil Trial Law consultants specialize in negotiation and pre-trial process as well as the rules of evidence, procedure, and other substantial law involved in civil cases. Johnson is licensed and has practiced in the U.S. Supreme Court; the Fifth, Seventh, and Eleventh Federal Circuits; the Federal District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Western Districts of Texas; the Texas Supreme Court and various Texas intermediate appellate courts. He currently teaches Appellate Advocacy at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law located in Fort Worth.
A prolific writer and speaker, Johnson has authored over nineteen legal articles and has presented at over thirty-six legal education courses on both trial and appellate issues. His articles have been cited as authority by the Texas Supreme Court (twice) and the Texas Courts of Appeals located in Waco, Amarillo, Texarkana, Beaumont, Tyler and Houston (Fourteenth District), and a federal district court in Pennsylvania.
Johnson is a member of the American Bar Association (Appellate Committee), the State Bar of Texas (Appellate Section), the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit, the Tarrant County Bar Association, the College of the State Bar of Texas and the Counsel of Appellate Lawyers. He received his J. D. from Baylor Law School and his B.B.A. from Baylor University.
