Ulmer & Berne Adds Former Boeing Chief Securities Counsel, Elizabeth Nemeth, to Rapidly Expanding Chicago Office
CHICAGO (August 30, 2010) - Ulmer & Berne LLP is pleased to announce that it has added Elizabeth A. Nemeth to its Chicago office as a partner in the Corporate Practice. Ms. Nemeth is The Boeing Company’s former Chief Counsel for Securities, Finance and Governance. Prior to that, she served as Corporate and Securities Counsel at General Electric’s corporate headquarters.
Ms. Nemeth is the latest high profile addition in what has been a steady flow of lateral attorney talent to Ulmer & Berne’s Chicago office over the last year. Last month, the firm added partner Kurt Lebakken to its Corporate Practice from Cravath, Swaine & Moore, and Brian Bianco from Sidley Austin’s Chicago office to its Intellectual Property Practice. In the last 12 months, Ulmer & Berne’s Chicago office has grown from two attorneys to 15.
“Liz brings with her to Ulmer & Berne, outstanding credentials and valuable in-house experience from two of the nation’s most prominent companies, Boeing and GE,” said Kip Reader, the firm’s managing partner. “Her addition advances our commitment to aggressively expanding the Chicago office through strategic, measured high-level lateral recruiting that supports our long-term vision for both this office and the firm as a whole.”
In her positions at Boeing and GE, Ms. Nemeth advised senior management on all aspects of securities compliance (including SEC disclosure), corporate governance (including proxy statement preparation, shareholder proposals and Board oversight), corporate financings and general corporate issues. She also oversaw securities compliance issues in connection with employee benefits matters and, at GE, assisted with significant accounting matters.
Before moving in-house, Ms. Nemeth was a corporate partner in the Chicago office of Winston & Strawn LLP. During her decade at the firm, she quickly became one of the firm’s leaders in the areas of securities and corporate governance compliance, and worked on many large, long-term client engagements.
Ms. Nemeth earned her B.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and her J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law.
In the last year, Ulmer & Berne has substantially expanded its presence in Chicago, adding a number of outstanding partners, associates, and counsel from well-known Chicago and national firms. It also rolled out new service offerings and practice areas, including Hedge Funds, Investment Management, Regulatory Counseling and Compliance, and Risk Management, with the goal of adding additional practice groups in Chicago through strategic lateral recruiting. Ulmer & Berne also recently moved into larger, state-of-the-art office space in Chicago, occupying more than 18,000 square feet on the 36th floor of the Citigroup Center at 500 West Madison St., to better accommodate its expansion.
