WASHINGTON (October 5, 2010) - Carr Maloney attorneys Dennis Quinn and James (Jim) Steele will be sworn in as Presidents of two statewide defense bars this October. Quinn will lead the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys (VADA), and Steele will lead the DC Defense Lawyers Association.
Quinn has been a VADA member for 10 years and previously served as Secretary, Treasurer and President-Elect. Steele has been a member of the DC Defense Lawyers Association for more than 10 years and previously served as its Secretary and Vice President. Two other Carr Maloney members, Jan Simonsen and Paul Maloney, previously served as President of the same organization.
“We’re very proud to have two of our attorneys leading two of our region’s largest defense organizations at the same time,” said Bill Carter, Carr Maloney’s managing attorney. “Carr Maloney has always been an integral member of the legal defense community throughout the mid-Atlantic region."
Mid-Atlantic law firm Carr Maloney specializes in complex tort and commercial litigation, professional liability representation, employment law and a range of business-related legal services. Quinn focuses on professional liability, commercial litigation and coverage litigation. Steele focuses on insurance coverage, complex litigation, professional liability, general liability litigation, non-profit and charitable organizations practice and religious institutions practice.
The VADA is a statewide bar that assists Virginia attorneys in the professional and ethical representation of their clients in civil litigation through education, communication and fellowship. The 40-year-old organization is comprised of more than 850 attorneys with years of successful trial experience.
“I’m honored to serve on the VADA’s board, which has a long tradition of strong, active leaders on its board of directors,” said Quinn. “At a time when many law firms are cutting back on professional development expenses, it’s become more important than ever before for attorneys to network with their peers, learn from their experiences, and continually build their professional knowledge. The VADA offers defense attorneys enormous value at a time when it’s needed most.”
The DC Defense Lawyers Association consists of attorneys who devote substantial time to the defense of civil cases in the courts of the District of Columbia and the adjoining metropolitan area.
“It’s an honor to lead the DC Defense Lawyers Association, which has a lofty and honorable mission,” said Steele. “Not only does it provide for an exchange of information, it also seeks to elevate the standards of trial practice, improve the adversary system, work toward elimination of delay in civil litigation, and increase the quality of service that the legal profession renders to the community.”
