Arnstein & Lehr Secures Veterinary Malpractice Victory for Owner of Deceased Prize-Winning Show Horse
TAMPA, Fla. (September 21, 2011) - Arnstein & Lehr LLP is pleased to announce that it has secured a major veterinary malpractice victory for its client, the owner of a prize-winning show horse, against a well-known veterinarian on the horse show circuit.
A Fifteenth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida, Palm Beach County jury found Dr. Haynes Stevens and his company, Equine Services, Ltd., liable for professional negligence (malpractice) for his treatment of Grandeur, a prizewinning horse owned by Arnstein & Lehr’s client, Dawn Fogel. The horse died following negligent treatment by Dr. Stevens.
In April 2011, the jury awarded Ms. Fogel damages towards the value of her horse.
Dr. Stevens practices in Florida, Kentucky and Illinois and is popular on the horse show circuit.
Ms. Fogel is represented by Robin S. Trupp, a partner in Arnstein & Lehr’s Tampa office and lead counsel on the case. A former trainer and competitive rider, Mr. Trupp has extensive experience and a specialized practice in equine law, which covers malpractice as well as issues involving the ownership and transfer of horses and interests in horses. Mr. Trupp also is a former member of the board of directors for the Pinellas County Horse Show Association, the Central Florida Hunter Jumper Association and the Plant High Rowing Association.
