Potter Anderson Supports Future Inventors and Patent-holders at Annual Hagley Museum Invention Convention
WILMINGTON, Del. (January 25, 2012) - Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP had the opportunity to encourage future inventors to pursue their dreams by participating in and sponsoring the Hagley Museum Invention Convention, a unique family-friendly event encouraging innovation, creativity, and imagination in young people through science, technology, and engineering.
The event took place January 14-16 at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, De. The Invention Convention offered children and families the opportunity to explore gadgets at the Tinkering Tables, create inventions using household items at the Create-an-Invention room, and patent their creation at the Hagley Patent Office. Potter Anderson attorneys Janet E. Reed, Travis W. Bliss, Jeffrey B. Safran and Hilmar L. Fricke, members of the firm’s intellectual property practice, served as patent agents for the Hagley Patent Office at the convention, offering participants a real-world glimpse of how intellectual property and patent law work.
Potter Anderson attorneys granted approximately 75 patents to convention participants who ranged in age from 3-13 years old. Some inventions were practical, such as a shopping cart umbrella or walking stick with built-in snack compartment, while others involved sophisticated technology, such as a solar powered car, shotgun teleporter, space ship, or robot tractor. One of the most unique combined high tech thinking with practicality – a rocket/room cleaner.
”Today’s young inventors will drive the future economy, and we are proud to help Hagley Museum Invention Convention provide a taste of the inventionprocess to them,” said Reed.
Hagley's Invention Convention was sponsored in part by Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP; Agilent Technologies, Inc.; Keystone Digital Imaging, Inc.; Nickle Electrical Companies; and Goodwill Delaware and Delaware County.
