PRYOR CASHMAN’S IP GROUP EXPANDS WITH THE ADDITION OF SEASONED PATENT LITIGATOR JAMES KLAIBER
NEW YORK (February 14, 2012) - Pryor Cashman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of James R. Klaiber to the firm’s Intellectual Property Group to grow its ranks of patent litigators. Klaiber joins from Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy where he was a pioneer member of their IP practice.
Klaiber specializes in patent law, including transactions and client counseling, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation. His experience is concentrated inelectrical and mechanical technologies with a strong focus on telecommunications, high technology, e-commerce, and healthcare.
“Jim is widely respected for his broad range of legal expertise and his impressive string of courtroom successes,” said Brad D. Rose, chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Group. “The addition of Jim to our already strong trademark and copyright litigation teams will solidify the firm’s ability to provide a complete range of intellectual property services to our clients.”
Klaiber represents a wide range of clients, from startups to multinationals, and has held a lead role in many large patent litigation cases, trials, and IP-related transactions. Most recently, he was lead intellectual property counsel for the bondholders in the Nortel bankruptcy proceedings, which resulted in the largest patent sale in history. In addition, Jim has litigated a variety of patent cases before the U.S. District Courts, the International Trade Commission, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.

Klaiber is a frequent speaker and lecturer, and is Chapter Chair of the MIT Enterprise Forum of New York, one of the nation’s leading technology entrepreneurship organizations. He will moderate an MITEF-NYC event on “A New Age in Patent Liquidity” at Pryor Cashman on Wednesday, February 15, 2012. The discussion will focus on how small businesses can leverage additional value from their patents.
Klaiber earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law while working at AT&T Bell Labs, and holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan, and U.C. Berkeley. He is admitted to the New York bar, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and theU.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Klaiber is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the NSF’s sensor research program administered by the University of Maine, and also the Chair of the Continuing Legal Education Subcommittee of the New York City Bar Association’s Patent Committee.
