Much has been written on the impact the new generic top-level domains (gTLDs) could have on the world’s leading brands. There is no doubt something of a gold rush on now to secure the right to important brands such as .apple, .microsoft, or .cartier. But one attorney feels not enough attention is being paid to what could be the biggest sea change driven by gTLDs. 

In two weeks, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names (ICANN) will meet to continue its discussions of a major new initiative – the expansion of the generic top-level domain (gTLD) space, or the letters to the right of the dot (which currently include .com, .net, .edu, .org, .gov and others).
